Citi Dash looks to pull 3 500 participants
The annual event was launched in Windhoek yesterday, with organisers hoping it will become Namibia's biggest mass participation sporting event.

The Nedbank Citi Dash will take place in September, with the organisers hoping it will become Namibia's biggest mass participation sporting event.
They hope to attract 3 500 participants this time around, 1 000 more last year's 2 500 runners.
Speaking at the launch, Nedbank Namibia chief financial officer JG van Graan said despite the unexpected challenge of the coronavirus pandemic, the organisers never thought of cancelling the event.
He further said while the event was supposed to take place in the winter, it was postponed due to regulations governing social interactions.
Great opportunity
“We have always tried to schedule the Dash in such a way that it coincides with the International Olympic Day, but clearly this year that just was not an option available to us.
“And so, with our co-sponsors and the organising team, we have now assessed potential future dates beyond the next few months, and taking into account the implications for sporting events amidst the necessary regulations governing social interaction,” he said.
Van Graan added that all the elements that set last year's edition apart from anything else on the national running calendar will remain largely intact.
“Just like the previous two editions, the Dash presents a great opportunity to get everyone involved from every sector of our community.
“Nedbank is therefore once again challenging corporates and schools to enter teams, and individuals to take up the challenge and participate in the event,” he said.
Official Comrades marathon coach, Lindsey Parry, will once again provide coaching skills towards the Dash, and will provide participants exclusive insight to the world of running and preparing both body and mind for a challenge.
Parry's knowledge and influence as one of the continent's foremost experts is well-documented, and evidenced by the teams he has taken to the London and Rio Olympic Games, as well as the Edinburgh and Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Other sponsors for the Dash include: Indongo Toyota, Namibia Health Plan, Coke-Cola and Olympia Optics.
Urban route
Designed to showcase Namibia's running talent, the route will take athletes up and down Independence Avenue, starting at Zoo Park.
The race will comprise of an elite 10km run, as well as options of 5km and 10km fun runs or walks.
Prize money will only be available to the 10km elite runners for both men and women. Entry forms are available at today.com.na.
