Chobe Water Villas opens

O&L Leisure this past weekend celebrated the opening of its latest resort, the Chobe Water Villas in the Zambezi Region.Built at a total investment of N$57 million, the resort is situated on the eastern tip of the Caprivi Strip, in the 150-square-kilometre Kasika Conservancy, near the town of Kasane in Botswana.It features 16 boutique-style rooms with unobstructed views towards the Chobe National Park and Kasikili Island, known for its abundance of wildlife, including elephant, lion, buffalo and over 460 species of birds.“It is imperative that we invest in the development of our people and growth of our own industries by supporting local businesses, service providers and products,” Ohlthaver & List (O&L) executive chairman Sven Thieme said at the launch.“We need to share our local pride and foster a world-class reputation for Namibian products and services which will not only increase sales but attract foreign investment to make a meaningful impact on the local economy,” Thieme said, also referring to his recent visit to New York City as part of a presidential business delegation, and their efforts to position and promote Namibia as an investment hub.“We need to nurture our own industries and encourage further investment so as to accelerate transformation and tackle poverty by making our country synonymous with innovation and positive change, and indeed an inspiration to the rest of the African continent as well as the global business community,” Thieme said.Deputy minister of environment and tourism Tommy Nambahu applauded the scene, saying the Chobe Water Villas'' unique structures and setup would provide beautiful and memorable experiences for all those who experience it.“On behalf of the government of the Republic of Namibia and her people, we immensely value the contribution that the O&L Group has made and continues to make towards the Namibian tourism sector,” Nambahu said. The new lodge has resulted in 30 new direct jobs created by the O&L Group, the company said.STAFF REPORTER
