The Chinese government will never forget the support given to them by President Hage Geingob and the Namibian government at the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak, and therefore they will help Namibia fight the disease.
This was said by Huang Hongtao, the representative of the Chinese Jiangxi provincial government in Namibia, when they donated personal protective equipment valued at N$100 000 to the Oshana Region last week. The donation includes 5 000 facemasks, 500 gloves and 72 hand sanitisers.
Friendship
Hongtao said the international communities can only win the fight against Covid-19 if they work together.
“There is no country that can protect itself from a pandemic. Under the strong leadership of Chinese government, China has controlled the pandemic and the domestic spread of the virus has been completely cut off. I would like to urge everyone that we fight and defeat this invisible enemy together,” Hongtao said.
“The Chinese government and its people will never forget the support we got from President Hage Geingob and the Namibian government at the beginning of this outbreak. The Chinese government is ready to continue to provide support within its capacity to Namibia to end the pandemic as soon as possible.” In April, Geingob had a conference call with Chinese leader Xi Jinping where he praised China's efforts in the fight against Covid-19, while asking for their support to curb the further spread of the virus. Late last week, 6.6 million people were infected by Covid-19 worldwide and over 388 514 had died. About 3.1 million have recovered. A total of 83 022 Chinese were infected, while 4 634 have died.
Appreciation
Receiving the donation was Oshana governor Elia Irimari, who thanked Jiangxi province for the support. He said it would assist with the implementation of the regional action plan.
“There is a shortage of this protective equipment in our hospitals. This donation will ensure that we accelerate our response measures at the regional level,” Irimari said.
