The Chinese embassy last week donated 50 oxygen cylinders to the ministry of health.
Making the donation, Chinese ambassador Zhang Yiming said it was part of efforts to continually strengthen relations between Namibia and China.
“This batch of equipment is a concrete embodiment of the cooperation between China and Namibia in the fight against the pandemic. It has demonstrated the traditional comradeship and brotherhood between China and Namibia,” said Yiming.
Yiming also thanked President Hage Geingob for showing solidarity with the Chinese government at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are very grateful to President Hage Geingob and the Namibian people for the moral support to China when the pandemic started and the firm defence of solidarity in the global efforts against Covid-19,” said Yiming.
“Now, we’re glad to see that thanks to strong leadership of President Hage Geingob, the hard work of the ministry of health and social services and other line ministries, Namibia’s medical resources and treatment capacity have increased significantly, and the vaccination rate is also on the rise,” said Yiming.
Brave
China would continue to stand in solidarity with Namibia, Yiming said.
“In the future, China will remain committed to supporting Namibia in its fight against the pandemic and economic recovery, and working with Namibia to maintain and develop the all-weather friendship at all levels.
“In less than a week, the traditional Chinese New Year will come. According to the Chinese Lunar calendar, the next Chinese new year will be the Year of the Tiger, which symbolises bravery and fearlessness. I sincerely wish Namibia, the land of the brave, a stronger and more vibrant Chinese New Year,” said Yiming.
