Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) public relations officer Chalo Chainda has called on corporate Namibia to get more involved in athletics.
Speaking on yesterday’s online ‘Sport Wrap’ online show, Chainda stressed that athletes need more financial support than it seems.
Chainda believes Namibia now has enough talent to win more medals than ever before.
“The athletes that we are cheering for now, like the likes of Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi, will need more support from corporate Namibia.
“It is not only them that need this financial support but the rest of the fraternity can do with more sponsors on board.
“These athletes need to travel with a team of physios and technical coaches and that cost money,” Chainda said.
Chainda lauded the companies that have remained committed to supporting athletes.
He added that these companies are the reason why athletics and sport in general is surviving.
“We really have to thank the big corporate companies that have remained committed towards sport.
“There are few of them that I can’t mention because I am afraid to leave some out.
“We the Sport Commission are grateful for the good work they have done over the years.
“I want you to keep supporting our athletes at all times and making sure that they are looked after.”
The NSC spokesman lauded the efforts of all Namibians competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
“I want to thank everyone that has been representing the nation at this huge spectacle.
“The Olympics is such a high event of great magnitude and one can just be proud of how all them have done, including Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi.
“To coach Henk, we are proud of the incredible job you have done with the girls.”
