Can we see the direction?
It has become clear that our country is facing numerous challenges. Of these problems, economic and financial troubles are the most obvious. They have been a long time coming. Even ordinary citizens in remote villages are experiencing these challenges. Even if staying far from health facilities is to be ignored as a challenge, the reality of travelling long distances to nearby health facilities just to find these facilities without needed medication is a reality. These experiences have brought many villagers close to the realities of our economic and financial situation. The villagers do not need to read newspapers or watch television to learn the country is broke. They have already received a number of retrenched workers who have explained immaculately that the tenders and contracts have been stopped. Although it is evident that the country is facing these challenges the political elites do not acknowledge the problems. They blame the global economy as if we do not have a negative balance of trade. They still tell the public that all is well and those speaking up are disturbing ‘peace and stability’. The political elites are fast becoming a laughing stock of the thinking members of society. The students are concerned with equality and they are asking for direction; which way Namibia?
