CAF to use Fifa expertise to step up reform
President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ahmad Ahmad is aiming to use Fifa's expertise to accelerate the reform process in the African governing body.
Ahmad wants to ensure that CAF functions with transparency, efficiency while abiding by the highest governance standards. Its executive committee has unanimously approved the proposal.
As part of this process, it was also agreed that Fifa and CAF will undertake a full forensic audit of CAF as soon as possible.
The two organisations have agreed to appoint Fifa secretary-general Fatma Samoura as 'Fifa general delegate for Africa' for a six-month period from August 1 to January 31 2020, renewable with the agreement of both organisations.
Samoura will be assisted by a group of experts who will work in a spirit of partnership with Ahmad and his team in several areas, which include among others to oversee the operational management of CAF, including governance and administrative procedures, as well as to ensure the efficient and professional organisation of all CAF competitions and to support the growth and development of football in all countries and regions of CAF.
Fifa and CAF will work closely together in order to serve all African Member Associations to bring stability, serenity, professionalism and effective football development on the African continent.
