Namibian Descent Project
Cabinet last week approved the extension of the Repatriation of Persons of Namibian Descent Project for a period of two years and that the inter-ministerial committee to be maintained. Cabinet further directed that the ministry of international relations formally requests Botswana to provide information with regard to the number of people and their households who want to be voluntarily repatriated to Namibia.
Africa Development Fund
Cabinet took note of the outcome of the seventh extraordinary meeting of the board of governors of the African Development Fund held on 5 March. Cabinet also took note that the governments of Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg and Sweden expressed their willingness to provide special temporary callable capital, in view of the current difficult economic and financial environment and the need for the fund to maintain its AAA creditworthiness.
Russian, Namibian justice ministers ratify cooperation agreement
Cabinet approved the ratification of two bilateral agreements, namely the agreement on cooperation between the ministry of justice of Namibia and the ministry of justice of Russia and the treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters between Namibia and Russia.
Periodic review on human rights
Cabinet directed the justice ministry to submit Namibia's report on Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the Human Rights Council (HRC) on the protection, promotion and fulfilment of human rights after approval by the human rights council, with all its recommendations, to Cabinet for consideration and endorsement.
Tabling of annual reports
Cabinet took note of the annual reports of the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Agricultural Bank of Namibia and the ministry of industrialisation and directed that the said reports be tabled in the National Assembly.
