Business delegation to US named
27-member group to join Geingob
A 27-member delegation of leading Namibian businesspeople, including captains of industries, is expected to join President Hage Geingob in New York for the Namibia Investment Forum next week.
The investment forum will take place from 22 September and is a curtain raiser for the main conference due to take place in Windhoek later this year in November.
The delegation includes O&L executive chairman Sven Thieme, Namport boss Bisey Uirab, David Nuuyoma of GIPF, as well as Quinton van Rooyen of Trustco. The CEOs of NamPower, ECB, Standard Bank, NTB, DBN, NCCI, B2Gold and NHE will also be part of the entourage to the US.
They will be joined by local business personalities John Endjala of J&P Group, Kauna Ndilula CEO of Business Financial Solutions, Matti Amukwa from the Confederation of Namibia Fishing Associations, as well as TransNamib board chairperson Paul Smit, among many others.
Meanwhile, Geingob yesterday officiated at a forum organised by the Constituency for Africa (CFA). The CFA is a lobby group on key trade relations with the continent for the past 25 years. This year’s forum has been attended by leading congressmen and women, senators across party divide, scholars, students and members of the American public.
According to a media statement issued by presidential spokesperson Albertus Aochamub, the president has conducted a series of media interviews with leading media institutions such as Bloomberg, where he presented Namibia’s case as an investment destination and as a hub and entry point to SADC. Aochamub added that today the president is expected to address the Africa Policy Forum at the University of George Washington Elliot School of International Relations.
The president is also expected to be a guest at the Clinton Coalition Annual Convention.
Ministers of energy, finance, home affairs, trade, economic planning and labour are also accompanying the president to the US.
