Business bleeds, survey shows

Jo-Maré Duddy – Nearly half of businesses which responded in an independent survey on government’s impact on the private sector reported that they had to downsize since the beginning of this year.
However, 77% of these businesses indicated that they experienced difficulty even before the appearance of Covid-19.
The Economic Policy Research Association (EPRA) today released the results of their survey on the role of government policy on economic growth or decline. A total of 559 businesses in Namibia was targeted and a response rate of 40% was achieved.
Asked about unemployment rates in Namibia over the next five years, 63% stated that unemployment will increase substantially, and 28.4% stated unemployment will increase somewhat.
EPRA is a voluntary association established in 2017 with its main objective to advocate for pragmatic, sustainable, pro-growth and investment friendly economic policy. By extension EPRA advocates for pragmatic job creation and equality improvement.
