Bulls trample Welwitschias
The Vodacom Blue Bulls demolished the Welwitschias 92-7 in a one sided Super Sport Rugby Challenge match at Hoërskool Garsfontein in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.
The match was moved to Hoërskool Garsfontein due to the 24th instalment of Vodacom Bulletjie Day at Loftus Versfeld and the crowd were treated to a match that saw 15 tries scored in total.
The Blue Bulls opened up their account in the minute when flank Boom Prinsloo crossed the chalk. This was followed up by tries to inside centre Franco Naude and wing Kefentse Mahlo within 15 minutes of the first kick-off.
The visitors struggled to contain the Blue Bulls as the men in blue ran in tries courtesy of number 8 Clyde Davids and flank Shaun Adendorff while Naude, Mahlo and Prinsloo each bagged their second.
Flyhalf Tinus de Beer's conversion of Prinsloo's second tries three minutes after the halftime hooter gave the Blue Bulls a comfortable 52-0 lead at the break.
The home team picked up things where they left them in the first half as Naude scored his third try in the 41st minute.
Ill-discipline plagued the second stanza as Welwitschias prop Andries Rousseau was yellow carded while Blue Bulls' replacement loose forward Marco van Staden and replacement hooker Jan-Henning Campher were sin binned in the 58th and 64th minute respectively.
The yellow cards may have stifled the flow of the match but it did not prevent Adendorff from getting his brace with 28 minutes left to go while replacement lock Brian Leitch got his name on the score sheet minutes later.
Wing Nikin Cloete crossed the whitewash for the Welwitschias in the 69th minute and flyhalf Dirk van Weidts' conversion sliced the uprights much to the delight of the supporters.
The Blue Bulls were not done just yet though as replacement scrumhalf Andre Warner got a double in the last ten minutes while replacement utility back Earl Douwrie also dotted down.
Replacement flyhalf Joshua Stander converted all five of the home team's second half tries with his final conversion handing the Blue Bulls a convincing 92-7 win over the Namibians.
