Bragging is a sport
Brag Night with Shell showed us a lot of turtles who came out of their shells for the first time. As usual, a variety of Volkswagen Golf and Polos came to show off and looked like their pretty selves. One of the most outstanding cars was Fyzel Smith’s Mazda Midge, the car which was crowned overall winner - Car of the Day. This prize included N$4 000, a N$1 000-voucher from Shell and N$1 000-voucher from Car Zilla magazine, and to top it off, it is now the ambassador for Shell.
On the other side of the sports field, young tuners attempting to make a name for themselves presented their projects which were as appealing as a new-born calf trying to find its legs.
The first official event on the day was the Sound-off Competition which was one of the most interesting for those who knew what was going on. For the rest it was an awkward moment of standing around and listening to a buzz of base for a few minutes. The Sound-off winner was Mouks Muller’s Ford Fiesta.
Other winners were:
Millennium, Zeth Straus - Polo Vivo
New School, Mouks Muller - Ford Fiesta
Old School, Godwin Plaath - Volkswagen Beetle
Dragster, Rezah Omar - BMW E30
Best Rims, Dimitri Diergardt - Opel
The Limbo event could have been slightly more fun if things weren’t done so stiffly. Car owners drove their low rides and came to a halt under the Limbo and the height was measured. This method could be more accurate but takes the fun out of what the Limbo should be.
The original Limbo dance requires you to pass below the pole without touching it. This was adopted by our neighbouring enthusiasts in South Africa where most apply the same rule when driving their cars through the barriers below the limbo stick.
Winners of the Limbo were:
First place, Kyron - Golf Mk1
Second place, Beukes - Toyota Corolla
Third place, Dimitri - Opel.
