The MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Promotion Club will host its first ever senior 10-bout boxing bonanza at the Oshakati Independence Stadium tomorrow.
Chairperson and owner Joseph Bernard said the tournament will serve as great entertainment for action-starved boxing fans.
“We want to see what the regions can offer in terms of boxing. There are many talented boxers in these regions, however, they don’t get a chance to showcase their talent. This is their chance to become a professional,” the former boxer added.
A fighter to look out for, amongst others, is Namibian flyweight national champion and 2020 Tokyo Olympics amateur boxing contestant Johannes Trofimus.
First to qualify
Trofimus is hoping to use the boxing event and many more to come as preparation for the Games, which will take place next July. He is the first from the stable to qualify for the prestigious Games.
The tournament forms part of the N$500 000 three-year MTC sponsorship to Kilimanjaro. Only 200 people will be allowed into the venue, and Covid-19 safety regulations will be adhered to.
The entry fee is N$50, and tickets will be sold at the gate.
