Blue Boys claim Bidvest Namibia Cup place
The former Namibia Premier League (NPL) Blue Boys FC won the preliminary games for the Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) Bidvest Namibia Cup over the weekend.
The Swakopmund-based Boys managed to beat Windhoek United FC 2-1 in the final match of the day at Mariental Stadium on Sunday.
This qualified them to the round 32 of the Bidvest Namibia Cup and they will next play Unam FC at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Boys were relegated from the NPL last season. They are in fifth spot in the SSFD league after 11 matches played.
In another surprising result, Kaizen Football Academy (KFA), who were the only club from the second division to reach the quarterfinals of this competition last season, haven’t made it to the final stage. They lost their first game against Keetmanshoop outfit Try Again FC 2-0.
Another match, Young African FC tried their best after demolishing Young Brazilians FC 7-1 but they did not make it through to the final stage.
In other playoff held at Gobabis in the Legare Stadium Spinders FC qualified for the round of 32 after beating Java-Java FC 3-1 and they will be entertained by the Otjiwarongo Football Club at Oscar Norich Stadium in Tsumeb.
The round of 32 will be contested this weekend at the Oscar Norich Stadium in Tsumeb and the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
The Round of 16 will be contested between February 27 and March 1, with the quarterfinals set for the weekend of March 27-29.
The semi-final will be held on April 24-26, with the final match on May 30 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
