Bester to give back through tournament

WINDHOEK-HECTOR MAWONGABrave Warriors playmaker Rudolf Bester is determined to leave a legacy in his home town of Otjiwarongo and is busy organising a football tournament there for the weekend of June 1 and 2.The player, who currently plays for Orlando Pirates in South Africa, is optimistic that the tournament will be able to unearth some hidden football talent.I just decided to host this tournament out of goodwill and to give back to the community at large... Sometimes there is talent, but we don't see it and these tournaments open such platforms for players, he said via email yesterday.Bester added that the tournament, which will see the winner walking away with N$15 000, is his way of showing appreciation for the people that have helped him succeed as a footballer.As a footballer I have learned that giving is not only physical or material things, but when people stop you - just to let you know how proud they are of you and that they keep you in their prayers - is a blessing on its own, he said, before adding that playing in a similar event is what led to him being discovered.The player goes on to say that he has received positive feedback from teams thus far.This is an open tournament and I will be happy if as many teams as possible enter, he said.Bester has already been on various radio stations and has opened a Facebook page (Bester Tournament), where interested teams can register their clubs.While normal football rules will apply to the tournament, only two players currently active in the Namibia Premier League (NPL) will be allowed per team, the player explained.The former Maritzburg United player also reiterated that although he is involved in the logistics of the tournament, it would be easier for teams to contact the likes of Ou Big Man at 0813821699, Makalan at 0812601746, Kompela at 0818674588 and Dese at 0816508722 (e-mail:dese.horaseb@gmail.com), because these guys are in Namibia .I will be there both days, as this is my baby that I want to grow into bigger and better things, he added.
