Desiree Gases A youth internship programme aimed at equipping people between the ages of 18 and 34 with meaningful skills and work experience has been launched.Identifying, assisting and advancing the careers of fellow Namibians has always been part of FistRand Namibia’s strategy, and is enshrined in their purpose of building a future of shared prosperity through enriching the lives of Namibia’s customers, employees and the societies which they serve.The FirstRand Namibia FirstJob programme, which started on 23 November 2021, aims to address Namibia’s youth unemployment crisis and improve youth employability. The FirstJob programme also focuses on developing entrepreneurship skills for many of the FirstJob participants, and the programme is open for applications by Namibian unemployed graduates between the ages of 18 and 31. The FirstJob programme is a 12-month contract for unemployed graduates and focuses on improving the employability of successful candidates across a number of fields. The FirstJob Internship programme will be advertised through the usual FirstRand Careers Portal. FirstRand Namibia, through FNB Namibia and RMB, has always endeavoured to implement best-practice talent management practices to identify, develop, select, and advance a diverse talent pool a talent pool fit to execute Group strategy. “According to trading economics, global macro models and analysts’ expectations, the youth unemployment rate in Namibia will reach 50.30 percent by the end of 2021,” said Conrad Dempsey, CEO of FirstRand Namibia.“This is especially concerning considering Namibia has one of the youngest populations in Africa, with more than one third of the population between 10 and 24 years of age. “FirstRand Namibia recognises that it has a responsibility to deliver both financial value and positive social outcomes for multiple stakeholders, including our youth. Embedding the principles of shared value into everything we do, including talent development and recruitment.” The FirstJob internship programme is looking for interns in the following fields of study: finance, business, process engineering, project management, data sciences / applied mathematics, marketing political sciences, economics, banking, robotics, law, and compliance risk management.Isdor Angula, chief human resource officer at FirstRand Namibia, said: “We are looking for young Namibians who demonstrate excellence, who are responsible, innovative, thirsty for knowledge.“If you are a well-rounded individual, a lateral thinker who pushes boundaries and has excelled in various aspects of life and in academics, feel encouraged to apply.
