BBA speculation continues

By March last year, Big Brother Africa auditions had already been announced on the show’s official website. This year, we are already at the end of May and no auditions have taken place, while the show is scheduled to start in August. This has fuelled speculation that the show might return with a reunion or a celebrity edition. Last month, MultiChoice Namibia spokesperson Katrina Sikeni told tjil that talk of a reunion show is just speculation, but confirmed the new season will start in August. Inside sources this week threw around the names of local celebrities who may be in line to represent Namibia this year. They include Kwaito stars The Dogg and Gazza, as well as songbirds Sally and Tunakie. tjil contacted The Dogg, who said it was the first time he had heard about the rumours of a BBA celebrity show. Gazza also seemed surprised when tjil called him. Asked whether he would enter if he is asked to do so, Gazza said he would have to think about it. Shambo queen Tunakie expressed surprise when contacted for comment. Tunakie told tjil at this stage she won’t consider it. “I am too much of a family woman right now. I’m in and out of the studio, raising my boys and being a wife. I would not say yes,” she said. Last month, former Big Brother Africa housemate Meryl Mwampamba told tjil although she loves the show, she won’t return - even if she is asked to come back this season. Meanwhile, Bernadine Buys, who represented Namibia alongside radio personality Jossy Joss during Big Brother Amplified in 2011, would love to return if it fits into her busy schedule. Some social network commentators have, however, criticised the show, saying celebrity reunion editions are redundant. Meanwhile, it’s been announced that Rwanda will feature on the popular reality television show for the first time. Rwanda will replace Angola among the participating countries, joining seasonal participants Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
