Banyana legend named Dana Cup ambassador
Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk has been named as the official Dana Cup ambassador.
The Dana Cup - a local women's football tournament - has clinched an agreement with Van Wyk and her football academy, JVW Girls Football Development, in South Africa.
JVW participated in the Dana Cup in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
This year, Van Wyk came straight from the Fifa Women's World Cup in France to coach JVW during the Dana Cup. Van Wyk just recently signed a contract to play for Fortuna Hjorring in the Danish league, so it was an obvious choice to bring her onboard as the official ambassador for the Dana Cup in South Africa and worldwide.
The 32-year-old has played for Houston Dash in the United States, and was the first South African player signed to that league.
She holds the record for the most capped South African football player, with 170 caps.
The agreement will see JVW Girls Football Development team take part in the Dana Cup each summer, as a part of their current development programme.
Guest players will also be welcomed for training and short stays at the Dana Cup Academy, Dana Cup Sports Centre and Fortuna Hjorring.
