BA draw Tura Magic in Bidvest Cup

Reigning Namibian champions Black Africa have been drawn against fellow premier league side Tura Magic in one of the quarter-finals of the Bidvest Namibia Cup. Tura Magic caretaker coach Timo Tjongarero said yesterday it was an interesting draw for both teams. “I think it is a good draw. It will be an extra motivation for the boys to play against the Namibian champions. It is also an honour for us to play a big team like BA, who recently participated in the CAF Champions League,” said Tjongarero. “For both teams it is not going to be an easy match. The pressure is on all the teams because they want to win a double, while this is realistically our only chance of winning something this season. I am also happy for the other lower division teams that have qualified for the quarter-finals.” The draw, which was conducted yesterday at Soccer House, will also see an all-NPL battle between United Stars of Rundu and Windhoek’s Tigers. African Stars will face Mountain Rangers, while Citizens will battle against Kaizen Football Academy. Citizens recently gained promotion to the elite league, following their exploits in the Southern Stream First Division. African Stars are the defending Bidvest Cup champions. Black Africa reached the quarterfinals after demolishing Blue Birds 5-1, while Tura Magic narrowly beat Tropical Heat 2-1 to advance. Tigers on the other hand defeated Blue Waters 2-1, while United Stars beat Blue Boys 3-1 to make it into the last eight. African Stars last week defeated Ali Akan’s Orlando Pirates to book a place in the quarter-finals, while Mountain Rangers caused an upset against Rundu Chiefs. Kaizen edged past Ramblers, while Citizens destroyed Bee Bob Brothers 5-1 in the previous round. The eight teams will battle it out during the weekend of April 4-6, while the organisers will confirm the respective venues soon.
