Athletics season kicks off

The athletics season is in full swing at schools along the coast. Walvis Bay Private High School’s (WBPHS) and Westside High School’s primary phases were some of the first schools to kick-start this season.
The WBPHS Sharks clinched victory with 1051 points, over the 967 points of the Seals and 880 points of the Dolphins.
At Westside High, the Dolphins were this time dominant over the Sharks with 3070 points over 2070. The best under-nine boy and girl were Faith Zatjirua and Olivia Shaahaunge while the best under-10 boy and girl were Bostin Aebeb and Fiath Kavendji. The best under-11 and -12 boys and girls respectively were Rashaad Brand, Sasha Tjihuro, Boris Auxab and Shevonique Klein.
Sarel Redelinghuis and Princess Noabeb were the best under-13 boy and girl. The victor ludorum was Rashaad Brand and the victrix ludorum was Faith Kaavendji.
At the four nations athletics championships between Kuisebmond Secondary School, Duinesig High School, Flamingo Secondary School and Tutaleni High School over 300 athletes competed against each other.
The winning school for the day was Kuisebmond Secondary School with 553 points. Duinesig High School came in second with 477 points, followed by Flamingo Secondary School (307) and Tutaleni High School (225).
The best athletes for the day were Emmerentia Aribes from Duinesig High School and Euzein Hanabeb from Flamingo Secondary School.
Duneside High School, The Dolphin Schools and Pro-Ed Academy also hosted their athletics the past weekend.
Namib High School will be hosting their athletics on Thursday, and Swakopmund Secondary School will be hosting theirs today (4 February). Next week Tuesday Coastal High will be hosting their athletics meet, while De Duine Secondary School will be hosting theirs on Saturday.
The Zonals will be hosted on 15 February, where all the top athletes from the schools in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund will be competing against each other to secure a spot at the regional athletics meet. This competition is set to take place 22 February.
The NAPSO Coca-Cola Wimpy athletics competition hosted by Pro-Ed academy will see about 22 private schools competing against each other on 23 and 24 March at the Vineta Sports Stadium in Swakopmund.
The national athletics competition is slated for 18 April.
