An athletics coaching camp organised by the Quinton-Steele Botes (QSB) Sport Athletics Club will take place from 3 to 6 January next year.

The 25th coaching and training camp will take place at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek.

Courses on offer are for six- to ten-year-olds from 08:00 to 12:30. The course will focus on the basic principles of all the athletics events, sprint hurdles, high and long jump and throw events.

The course aims to expose children to all events in which they will learn all necessary aspects and techniques in order to find their main event when older, according to Leoni van Rensburg.

In the senior primary school combination participants can use the following: high jump, long jump and sprints, long jump, hurdles and sprints, shot put, discus and javelin or middle distance.

High school learners and seniors can choose sprints, hurdles, middle and long distance, high jump, long and triple jump, shot put and discus, javelin, or a coaching course.

The training camp was initiated by the late Quinton-Steele Botes, who started the training for teachers in 1993. Botes, who became the country's top sports administrator and consultant, died of bone marrow cancer on 25 June 2014.

Registration will take place on 3 January at 13:00.

The registration fee is N$50 for young athletes in primary school. High school and advanced athletes will pay N$480.
