Police in the Omusati Region on Sunday arrested a 34-year-old woman suspected of killing her one-month-old baby boy at Okahao.
On Friday, the baby’s body was discovered - wrapped in a plastic bag - at the town’s dumpsite.
Omusati police commissioner Titus Shikongo said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect gave birth in her room at Okahao on 23 December 2021.
Shikongo said the suspect stayed with the baby in her room until 7 January.
“The suspect has been identified as being employed at one of the local schools in Okahao town, but originally came from Onawa village in the Anamulange constituency,” he said.
Shikongo said the woman was detained at Okahao police station and taken to Okahao State Hospital for examination and treatment.
“She has not yet been charged, as investigations into the matter are continuing,” he said.
Tip-off
The police last week asked for public assistance to identify the baby in order to find the culprit. Shikongo said they received information about a woman who had given birth.
The suspect was to be charged yesterday, and is expected to appear in the Okahao Magistrate’s Court today.
