April clarifies Gurirab, Spiegel Pirates move
Two former Namibia Premier League players will be plying their trade in South Africa's ABS Motsepe League.
Football agent Collin April has confirmed that former Life Fighters forward Isaskar Gurirab and Okahandja United goalkeeper Calvin Spiegel have signed to Orlando Pirates team Pele Pele.
Pele Pele plays in the ABC Motsepe League in South Africa.
This follows initial reports on social media that the two Namibian players inked deals with South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Orlando Pirates on a three-year contract.
The reports were however followed by other speculations that the duo could have signed to Orlando Pirates' Super Diski team.
The speculations stirred questions about the legitimacy of the transfer news, given that the Diski League is only for South African nationals.
In a post on social media yesterday, April however clarified the reports, confirming that the duo have indeed signed to Pele Pele.
“Let me make something clear with regards to the signing of Gurirab and Spiegel.
“The players have not signed to play for Orlando Pirates Super Diski team but for Orlando Pirates' other team called Pele Pele in the Motsepe League.
“Both players will officially join the senior team when the new season starts and will officially be paraded to Orlando Pirates' supporters at that time. Once again, congratulations to Gurirab and Spiegel,” the post reads.
The ABC Motsepe League, previously known as the Vodacom League between 1998 and 2012, was founded in 1998 as the current second division and the overall third tier of South African football.
The competition is regulated by the South African Football Association, and until 2012 had been sponsored by mobile telecommunications company Vodacom.
