Anti-Ya Nangoloh committee falls apart

OSHAKATIPLACIDO HILUKILWADenys Nandjigwa and Festus Nuunyango, the treasurer and deputy treasurer of an organisation fighting alleged corruption and maladministration within NamRights, have resigned their positions due to what former colleagues describe as fierce intimidation.The so-called Revolutionary Committee was established earlier this year and is chaired by NamRights' former manager in Oshakati Festus Shaduva, and also includes former employees David Shayelamo and Johanna Elago.The committee has accused NamRights executive director, Phil ya Nangoloh, of abuse of power and of allegedly making himself guilty of a number of irregularities.Both Nandjigwa and Nuunyango resigned their positions on the committee a few months ago, but Nandjigwa went further by announcing his complete withdrawal.In his withdrawal letter, he said his busy schedule as a businessman does not allow him to fully participate in the committee's activities.Nandjigwa, who in the meantime has joined Swapo, further cited his lack of knowledge of the internal workings of NamRights.Unlike his counterparts in the committee, he was never a full-time employee of the human rights organisation.&quot;I worked for NamRights as a volunteer and my knowledge of its internal workings is very much limited. Therefore, when fellow committee members talk about alleged corruption within NamRights, I am completely at a loss. Since I know nothing about the alleged corruption, my only option now is to withdraw my membership,&quot; he said.Shaduva said the resignations came as a result of intimidation.&quot;Nandjigwa and Nuunyango's involvement with the committee was a great success and this resulted in them being intimidated,&quot; he said.Ya Nangoloh welcomed Nandjigwa's resignation. &quot;He did the right thing at the right time. He was never an employee of NamRights and has no business associating with disgruntled former NamRights employees,&quot; Ya Nangoloh said, adding that committee members have defamed his character and he is about to sue them. &quot;The summons will come their way within a week or two,&quot; he said.
