A two-year-old toddler was allegedly raped by a 29-year-old family member on Sunday at Okakekete village, Anamulenge Constituency in the Omusati Region.
It is alleged the suspect found the victim sleeping alone in the house while the elders were in the mahangu field.
Police regional commander in Omusati, commissioner Titus Shikongo, said the rape took place at around 16:00.
“The victim lives with her paternal grandmother, who is the complainant in the matter,” Shikongo said.
He said the suspect, a 29-year-old man who lives in the same house, has been arrested and is expected to appear in the Outapi Magistrate's Court today.
In another case, a 17-year-old boy is expected to make his first court appearance in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court this week after he allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl last Thursday.
The incident occurred around 17:00 at the Okaluwa village in the Omuntele area of Oshikoto.
Police regional commander in Oshikoto, commissioner Armas Shivute, said the victim and suspect were in the victim’s sleeping room when the suspect ordered her to undress and raped her.
"The victim and suspect stay at the same house, but the two are not related, Shivute said.
The suspect has been arrested.
Argument turns deadly
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, 51-year-old Victor Amutenya from Onawa village succumbed to his injuries after an attack at a cuca shop.
Shikongo said it is alleged the suspect and the deceased were on the way home from the cuca shops when an argument started between them.
This allegedly led to a physical fight that saw the suspect hitting Amutenya with a walking stick on the back of his head and inflicting serious injuries, he said.
“The deceased was taken to Outapi District Hospital and was later transferred to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday,” Shikongo said.
The suspect, a 48-year-old man, has been arrested and is due to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court this week, he added.
Currently kept at the Oshakati State Hospital, the body will be taken to the Oshakati Police Mortuary for a post-mortem. Police investigations continue in all three cases.
