Air Nam's Frankfurt route not cancelled
Namibia's national airline has dismissed reports that it's intercontinental flight to and from Frankfurt has been terminated.
In a statement issued on Friday Air Namibia stated “there has been no decision to suspend or terminate Air Namibia's Frankfurt route by cabinet”.
The airline released the statement noting that there had been media reports suggesting cabinet took the decision for the route to Frankfurt to “be discontinued due to its financial viability”.
The statement was issued to “put some matters into perspective regarding the Namibian national airline's only intercontinental route, by stating the facts”.
The airline assured all stakeholders and the public that the route will continue to be served by Air Namibia “as per the published schedule for the foreseeable future”.
The statement also underlined the airline's way forward.
“The board of directors and management, together with consultants recently appointed by the shareholder, are engaged in a process of re-evaluating the strategy and supporting Air Namibia's business model that will ensure sustainability of the national airline as a going concern.
“The objective of this exercise is to identify opportunities to improve financial performance, enhance efficiency and reduce costs across the airline's entire route network, including the Frankfurt route.
