Agra Weaner Championship winners crowned

The Agra Weaner Championship Series 2020 concluded with a gala event at Arebbusch Travel Lodge in Windhoek last week.
At the event, prizes for regional winners were handed out, while Frans Lottering was crowned as the national champion.
The 2020 Weaner Championship Series marks the ninth year that Agra has hosted this annual auction series.
“On the back of one of the worst droughts in recorded history, Namibian farmers are currently in a herd rebuilding phase and as such, livestock numbers being offered for auction were not excessively high.
“What was a welcome change however, was the fact that weaner calves averaged around 20 kg heavier than in 2019, as well as a nearly 30% increase in prices when compared to the previous season,” said Agra.
Improving standards
According to Agra the Weaner Championship Series is focused on improving the standards of the livestock production sector.
It is also a valuable opportunity for local producers to market their animals to neighbouring South Africa for the Christmas market period.
“Every year the championship auctions are a huge success and Agra cannot possibly host it if not for the generous support of their main sponsor, Bank Windhoek and senior sponsors: Feedmaster, Sanlam and Santam, as well as associate sponsors: AgriBank, Bayer, Hino Indongo and Indongo Toyota, MSD and MTC.”
