Adidas ropes in Hotto
For the first time in Namibia's history, one of its players has managed to catch the eye of one of the biggest brands in the world.
Brave Warriors winger Deon Hotto, who plies his trade at Bidvest Wits in South Africa's Premier Soccer League, has secured a sponsorship deal with global brand, Adidas.
The 27-year old signed a two-year deal with Bidvest in June and scored one of the best goals of his career against Kaizer Chiefs recently.
Football brands took notice and now Hotto follows in the footsteps of players like Barcelona's Lionel Messi, Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, Manchester United's Paul Pogba, N'Golo Kanté of Chelsea, Cape Town City's Teko Modise, Chiefs' Khama Billiat and Orlando Pirates Thabo Matlaba, who all don Adidas boots for their matches.
This is a great achievement, as Adidas receives many sponsorship requests from teams, athletes and organisations, and is unable to bring everyone onto their books.
The global sportswear brand only accepts those who embody the best in sport, including teamwork, honesty, pride, personal accountability and discipline.
Hotto expressed happiness regarding the sponsorship deal.
“How happy I was when I was informed that I had been chosen and sponsored by Adidas. I really can't believe that you (Adidas) offered me such a wonderful opportunity to represent a worldwide brand,” he posted on his Facebook page.
“Yes, I always wanted to be a part of your wonderful company and your venture. But I had no particular profile in mind. I'm overwhelmed by receiving your offer letter. Don't know how I should thank you for this.
“But, one thing I can be sure of is that I will do my best to take your company to new heights of success by showcasing my skills on the football pitch and expertise wherever I go. I assure you that I will give my 100% in this regard.
“I have to admit that sometimes I want to give up, but first and foremost I have to remember that God is still in control. Secondly, I have to remember what I've been through, why I'm here and know that I have support from family and companies like Adidas who care enough and are able to empower people. Thank you Adidas and Bidvest,” the player added.
The Namibian had a stint with Lamontville Golden Arrows before later joining Celtic. The 2015 Cosafa Cup winner is expected to make things happened for the Clever Boys on the flank, with his pace and ability to take on defenders.
He has also been called up once again by the national team, for their Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier next month.
