A star is born
They say the world is your oyster and Rose Bimpe has taken that literally, as she strides against all odds to make her international stardom dreams a reality.
Four-year-old Rose Bimpe is a child superstar in the making.
But the 'little miss drama queen' faces challenges that may affect the take-off of her career, as the opportunities for her are non-existent in Namibia.
However, through the sheer will of her 'momager' and fans that support her, the little star is set to take off and have the sky as her limits. Here is her story.
Living in country of just over two million people, which also has an underdeveloped modelling and acting industry, Rose relates to the common sentiments of most upcoming child actors on the African continent.
There is nothing more career killing than having a talent that has no room for expansion, due to her location.
Rose was born in the northern town of Oshakati and moved to the capital city when she was just a few months old.
At age two, she started imitating television models and told her mother about her passion for modelling. At the tender age of three, Rose also felt a passion for acting starting to creep in - something she repeatedly told her mom. Apart from her love for acting and drama, Rose loves and has a passion for fashion, and regularly poses for pictures whenever an opportunity presents itself.
“I love watching fashion shows when I can. I also like to imitate them. I feel like I can do it better than them,” she says.
Due to living in country that has a small population and an undeveloped film and modelling industry, her mother struggled to find a school to enrol her in for drama and acting classes.
Luckily, Helen O' Grady Drama Academy's Windhoek franchise opened their doors and at the beginning of this year, she registered the little star.
“We were very lucky to get her a spot, but because of many life commitments, she is only continuing the next semester at the beginning of the month. It is a school I don't want to give up on for her. She loved it so much that she still begs to return to drama classes,” said Rose's mother, Tuhafeni Nakashole.
While Namibia offers little to no opportunities for Rose's talent and passion, her 'momager' remains committed to work on her daughter's development, to make sure that her domestic limitations will not dampen her dreams.
This year alone, they managed to reach out to film producers in leading acting countries in Africa, such as Ghana and Nigeria, and her monologues impressed them.
Nakashole feels that while passionate and talented children in developed countries that have thriving acting and modelling industries get easier access the various tools that allow them to build on their talents and passions, the same cannot be said about Rose and others like her. But despite this, Rose's talent and passion will not be given up on.
Rose has so far been booked for an American-based global campaign that is targeting African and poorer communities around the world. All information regarding the campaign will be shared on her social media.
The little starlight says she is excited to start working and can't wait to show the rest of the world how talented she is.
Rose has also been featured in a Canadian kid's magazine, Trending Kids Magazine, in their 2018 October issue. Apart from that, Rose was featured in US-founded NGO FinMango's promotional video.
“I started scouting and marketing her young talent with the aim to get her booked at auditions. Rose is currently having an active social media life and she even has a website, www.rosebimpe.com. I know that this is what she loves doing and I will make sure that she succeeds. I can already picture my four-year-old graduating from the New York Film Academy 17 years from now with distinctions, because she is passionate and will have so much exposure to whatever she is going learn in that school,” said the 'momager'.
Rose is a fun and independent child. She is currently looking for opportunities in Namibia and beyond.
She is also flexible to travel with her 'momager', as her dream is not limited to the domestic market.
She is also willing to relocate, should she get a role that requires this.
“I'm not just a child who plays too much, I'm a child who has so much focus on things that I am passionate about. Whatever your goal is, don't take your eyes off it. Keep pushing,” Rose said.
Are you a film director and need that sassy child for a role? Are you a fashion designer and need an active and bubbly child to model your kiddie line? Are you a photographer and need to market your work using children?
