A focused accountant queen

Michelline NawatisesNdapewoshali Hangula was born in a village outside Omuthiya called Okakoko and raised in Otavi where she attended school. Eventually, she matriculated at Khorab Secondary School. Afterwards, Hangula moved to Windhoek for university, where she completed her degree at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). She further did a postgraduate diploma in applied accounting sciences from UNISA and at that time, she was doing her PAAB Articles at KPMG Namibia. “Being there groomed me in project management, analysing data, executing audits in companies in different industries that now helps me in my current role as an accountant in charge of stock and fixed assets at MultiChoice Namibia,” Hangula says.In stock, it’s all about managing the stock reporting. They need to ensure the landed cost schedule is up to date, maintaining hardware prices to ensure these are aligned with current offers they have in the market, coordinating stock counts of branches and agents and providing necessary support to the sales and distribution team, as well as assisting in business planning (budgets and forecasts) with focus to a subsidy. “In the area of fixed assets, I maintain the fixed asset register by ensuring the four elements that drive the balance of it are appropriately accounted for - additions, disposals, depreciation and transfers,” she says.Her biggest challenge would be obtaining a qualification within the accounting sphere in Namibia. “My biggest accomplishments would be working for a Big Four audit firm and then going back to my former school and delivering a motivational speech to the Class of 2019,” she says.Every day is unique; she can go from one major task on her to-do list to one email changing up her whole day. “A typical day goes from smooth to a train wreck and before you know it, it’s smooth again,” Hangula adds.Being able to impart knowledge is her love. She is inspired by young people pulling themselves up from what seemed to be a lightless tunnel and making their lives a work in progress of success.She says that there is power in words, time, and a changed mind. “This means you should watch what you say to yourself. The clock keeps ticking, so redeem the time; and your mind is your business - so mind it. In short, nothing just happens, individuals make it happen,” she concludes.
