91% of drug arrests are Namibians

Drugs to the value of more than N$33.7 million were confiscated in Namibia from February to November.

More than 1 000 suspects were arrested between February and November for drug-related crimes, while Namibians make up 91% of these suspects.

The Namibian Police seized various types of drugs with an estimated value of more than N$700 000 last month, while 84 suspects were arrested in connection with drug-related crimes.

Of these suspects, 67 were Namibian, 12 Zambian and three Angolan as well as one Brazilian and one Botswana national.

Cannabis was the most seized drug, followed by Mandrax, cocaine powder and crack cocaine.

Millions in drugs

According to the drug seizure and arrest report for November, drugs to the value of N$772 530 were confiscated.

This included 41 339 kg of cannabis to the value of N$413 390, 127 Mandrax tablets worth N$15 240, 686 grams of cocaine powder to the value of N$343 000 and nine units of crack cocaine valued at N$900.

From February to November, 1 039 suspects were arrested in connection with drug-related crimes.

According to statistics from the Namibian police, drugs to the value of more than N$33.7 million were confiscated in Namibia over this period, while 954 Namibians were arrested.

Statistics for January were not available.
