85 arrested for drugs in November

Eighty-five suspects were arrested in connection with drug-related crimes during November, while more than N$3.44 million in drugs were seized.
Of the suspects arrested, 78 are Namibians, two Angolans, two Zimbabweans, while a Nigerian, Mozambican and Zambian were also arrested.
According to a report provided by the police, a total of 339 548kg of cannabis – valued at more than N$3.39 million - was seized last month.
A total of 351 mandrax tablets, to the value of N$42 120, was also seized.
Furthermore, 70 units of crack cocaine – valued at N$7 000 - were confiscated, while police also seized five grams of cocaine powder to the value of N$2 500.
The police once again cautioned the public against dealing in drugs.

Drugs to the value of more than N$1.28 million were seized during August and September, and 222 suspects were arrested.
According to statistics provided by the police for the months of August and September, the majority of the suspects arrested are Namibians.
Meanwhile, cannabis still remains the top consumed drug by Namibians, with marijuana valued at more than N$1.125 million being confiscated during those months.
No statistics were provided for October.
