11-year-old raped
An 11-year-old girl was raped on her way from school on Friday at Okapya village in Ongwediva.
The suspect, an Angolan man, has been arrested. He allegedly chased the girl, caught her and pulled her into a construction site where he raped her.
In another incident, a 62-year-old man allegedly hit his 39-year-old wife on the head with a hammer on Friday. The incident happened at Kambimba village in the Mukwe Constituency. The woman lost consciousness. The suspect was arrested and police investigations continue. Meanwhile, five people drowned over the weekend. On Friday, a one-year-old girl drowned in a container of water at King Kauluma in the Oshikoto Region.
It is alleged that Johanna Ndaamakunye was left in the house with her three-year-old sister when their mother went to fetch water from a neighbouring house.
In another incident on Friday, nine-year-old Junior Matheus Mbahu Nembwanga drowned while swimming in a pond at Omufituwanauyala village in the Omusati Region.
Justina Mbwika (25) drowned while fishing in a dam at Engela village on Saturday. Her body was recovered from the dam.
On Sunday, the body of two-year-old Alfeus Wedeinge Shituleipo was discovered in a pond at Ohepa village in the Ohangwena Region.
In another incident on Sunday, ten-year-old Vezemboue Tjihenanu drowned in Windhoek's Goreangab Dam while trying to retrieve his shoe that had fallen into the water. His friends ran back home and informed their parents about the incident. The child's body was retrieved from the dam.
An elderly German couple were robbed by a 31-year-old suspect at Maltahöhe on Saturday. According to the police the couple, aged 72 and 74, were followed from the Maltahöhe hotel and overpowered by the suspect. He robbed them of a handbag containing travel documents and cash. The quick response of the police and the hotel owner led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the handbag.
