Spy agency loses interdict bid
The Namibia Central Intelligence Service (NCIS) has lost its bid to interdict the weekly The Patriot newspaper from publishing a story revealing details of property purchases, on the basis that national security would be compromised. Judge Harald Geier this morning dismissed the application with costs, saying although legislation may exist to protect national security interests, the law in general can’t be used in instances where the media may potentially be uncovering illegal and corrupt activities.
