//Karas warm up against Khomas clubs
The //Karas ladies football team won two of the four matches they played against Khomas clubs at the weekend, in preparation for the upcoming 2019 Galz & Goals Under-17 National Championships.
The fourth edition of the championships will kick off at the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Technical Centre on 5 October.
During their first match on Saturday, //Karas were defeated 5-1 by Welwitschia.
Their second encounter saw //Karas adapting well, as they faced the Ramblers ladies team in the afternoon. Goals came pouring from right-winger Roberta Engelbrecht, followed by another magical touch by Lee-Zan Rooi at close range, after some brilliant dribbling by Lerato Swartbooi.
Swartbooi then took the bull by the horns and scored the third goal to make it 3-0 in favour of //Karas.
The last match of the day saw the southern ladies going down 0-1 to Right Way Football Club.
On Sunday, //Karas started the day on a good note when they defeated one of the Khomas Region's toughest ladies team, Girls Football Academy, 2-1. Both goals were scored by Emily Windstaan just before halftime. //Karas Girls Football Academy coach Dino Pieters revealed he plans to reclaim the region's glory days, when they were known as a “soccer powerhouse”.
“We want to bring back the dreams, the hopes, the desire, the discipline of women's football in the region that was lost in the past five years,” he said. He added he also plans to register the club for the Skorpion Zinc Women's Super League, in order to get more football exposure, since more competitive football is being played in Windhoek, compared to the //Karas Region.
