Alleged fuel smuggler killed in police shootout
A man was killed last night following a shootout with members of the Oshana police. The victim is suspected to be a fuel smuggler. According to Oshana regional crime investigations coordinator, deputy commissioner Hilja Haipumbu, the police received a tip off about illegal fuel traders who were conducting business in Oshakati, Ongwediva and Ondangwa. "Our members went to a spot in Oshana where they were busy conducting business and when they saw the police they started shooting at the police. Police responded and it was later discovered that one was shot dead in their car," Haipumbu said. Three other suspects were later arrested shortly after fleeing from the scene. The victim is not yet identified and police investigations continue.
