Willem Kayongo’s entrepreneurial dream becomes reality

Willem Kayongo, the owner of financial service provider Solid Desert Cash Loan Express CC, is a man who has been around as far as a varied career is concerned.Unable to pursue a degree due to financial constraints, Kayongo enrolled at Katutura Community College, where he trained as a computer technician specialising in hardware, software and networking.After completing his studies, he spent ten years working at Rabux before resigning.In his quest for a better future, he then ventured into the health sector, where he successfully secured a spot and underwent training in community health in 2017.Next, Kayongo began working on a contractual basis for the health and social services ministry in 2020. It was after this that his business interests set sail, leading to the establishment of Solid Desert Cash Loan Express CC in Oranjemund.A dream comes trueKayongo says he has long dreamed of running his own business.“Venturing into entrepreneurship and financial services has always been my dream. I was pursuing self-reliance and helping the youth by creating employment," he explains.His company currently employs five young individuals. When asked about the challenges he faced as a business owner, Kayongo pinpointed finding suitable accommodation for operations as the main obstacle, along with acquiring office equipment and marketing the business.“We initially bought a caravan and turned it into our office”, he says.One of Kayongo's proudest moments as a business owner was finally having all the necessary equipment in place and seeing the business’s marketing efforts succeed.He says the company has also launched a website where customers can apply for services online.Kayongo added that maintaining a solid relationship with stakeholders is crucial to success.Looking ahead, he hopes to expand his business to other towns such as Lüderitz, Rundu and Oshakati.But it's not only about business. “We wish to offer financial assistance to orphans and help vulnerable and marginalised children go to school," he says. Kayongo praised his family for their steadfast support in helping him achieve his dream.
