Valeria Chomore takes the helm at OSAAT Africa
Appointed as new national director
The One Step at a Time (OSAAT) Africa Health Foundation has announced the appointment of Valeria Chomore as the organisation’s new national director, effective 7 October.
Currently a medical student at the University of Namibia, Chomore has been an integral part of OSAAT Africa for several years, embodying the organisation’s values of service, compassion and empowerment.
Chomore’s work with the foundation began as a volunteer, where her dedication and leadership quickly set her apart.
Her deep commitment led to her appointment as operations manager, a role in which she successfully coordinated health education programmes, scholarship initiatives, clinic operations and digital health projects that have had a lasting impact on communities across Namibia.
Informed choices
Guided by the belief that true leadership is grounded in empathy, inclusion and community-led action, Chomore’s approach aligns seamlessly with the mission of the OSAAT Africa Health Foundation.
In her new role, she aims to expand women’s health initiatives, strengthen sexual and reproductive health programmes, and promote greater youth participation in healthcare.
She is also committed to leveraging digital health innovations to make healthcare more accessible and equitable, particularly for underserved communities.
“Becoming national director feels deeply personal to me,” said Chomore. “I have seen first-hand how the lack of access to healthcare affects people in disadvantaged communities, and that is what drives me every day.”
She added: “My goal is to ensure that every woman and girl, no matter where she comes from or what she has, can access quality care and make informed choices about her health.”
She underlined that her appointment is “more than a role for me; it is a calling to continue building something that truly changes lives.”
Meaningful change
OSAAT Africa Health Foundation’s mission is to provide quality women’s and sexual reproductive health services to all, regardless of social or economic status. Under Chomore’s leadership, the organisation is poised to strengthen its programmes, extend its reach, and continue driving meaningful change across Namibia.
Founded in 2019, OSAAT is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and women’s health for all, regardless of socio-economic status.
The foundation delivers its programmes through sexual and reproductive health education in native languages, contraceptive clinics, community-based sonar screenings, and digital health initiatives.
With a volunteer network of nearly 200 dedicated individuals, OSAAT continues to empower women, strengthen healthcare access for marginalised communities, and promote inclusive health solutions across Namibia.
In 2024, the foundation was awarded the Echoing Green Fellowship for its innovative approach to community health.
