Senior conveyancing secretary at Dr Weder,Kauta & Hoveka Inc in Windhoek, Alta Muir, shares her 28 years of experience at the firm.
Dr Weder, Kauta & Hoveka Incorporated (WKH) believes that employees are the company’s most valuable assets.

One of WKH’s long-serving employees had nothing but compliments to dish out when it came to acknowledging the firm’s input in her career and success.
Expanding knowledge
Alta Muir, one of 24 conveyancing secretaries at WKH’s Windhoek branch, has been a part of the dynamic firm for 28 years, since 1996.
Muir is in the bonds department at WKH and is also the secretary to the managing director (MD), André Swanepoel.
She joined the firm after 12 years of employment at another firm in Swakopmund. Muir said initially the change from a small coastal town to a big city was a huge adjustment, but she is thankful for her colleagues and her boss for helping her settle into the busy city life.
Muir said she was fortunate enough to get a job immediately after graduating from grade 12 in 1984. She started off as a messenger, worked her way up the corporate ladder and now has the experience and knowledge to work in any department of WKH. The senior conveyancing secretary attributes her success to her eagerness to learn more and better herself.
When asked about her role as a senior conveyancing secretary, Muir explained that it takes vigilance and dedication to make a success out of it. “It can be stressful, but it's all worth it in the end,” she said.
After spending years building a family at WKH, Muir is looking forward to one day hanging up the conveyancing secretary cap and retiring to the coast.
“My husband and I want to retire at the coast; at this point, we are not sure if this will be in Swakopmund or Henties Bay. He loves fishing and I enjoy sitting with my feet in the sand, drinking my coffee and watching the waves,” said Muir.
Advice to the youth
Muir firmly believes that hard work pays off and says it is the best advice she can give the younger generation. “Hard work pays off! Always be humble, go the extra mile for your clients and strive for service excellence."
She added that what helped her manage and build her career was the fact that she loves what she does and she urged young people to choose a career they love.
“Take every opportunity to better yourself and set realistic goals for yourself,” said Muir.
"Be courteous, strong, reliable and loyal and a team player but most importantly, make time for yourself and your family."
