Hard work brings dreams to life
Garises embodies the saying that "hard work and consistency are the key to success".
Marianne Garises is from Uis, a small settlement in the Erongo Region. Amongst other things, Uis is well known for its riches in mineral resources.
She was born to Johanna Garises and Joel Muinyangwe and has one younger brother.
“I come from a very modest background, starting from the days I went to school on an empty stomach to the times I went to school barefoot. Even during the cold days, it is these experiences of insufficiency that remain my motivation to continuously work hard to turn my dreams into reality,” Garises said.
Putting God first, dedication, humility, discipline, consistency and respect for people from all walks of life are some of the personal traits by which she is known. She came to Windhoek to pursue her academic goals, and after completing her first degree, she opted to stay in the capital city to advance her career.
She said she started as a junior accountant at MobiPay in 2014 and is now the head of debtors and a data analyst at the same company. Garises emphasised on how MobiPay played a pivotal role in her academic and professional progress and expressed her gratitude towards the business.
“My academic journey has been a humbling experience full of God’s grace and favour,” she said.
She obtained her primary education at Brandberg Primary School in Uis. "I was that bright student with limited financial resources." Garises then began her secondary education at Petrus Ganeb Secondary School in Uis, which only had up to grade 10 at that time, she then continued her education at Swakopmund Secondary School where she completed grades 11 and 12.
She then applied to the University of Namibia (Unam), where she earned a bachelor of accounting honours degree. Due to financial constraints, she was compelled to look for employment while pursuing her qualification. She subsequently changed her studies from full-time to part-time in order to work, and said balancing her education and career was tough at times, but she completed her degree nonetheless.
Garises returned to Unam after a long absence from academics to pursue postgraduate studies through the Namibia Business School (NBS). She then earned a postgraduate diploma in business administration from NBS and thereafter a master's degree in management strategy.
She said she is ecstatic about achieving yet another academic goal that she has set out for herself, and testified that it has all been by God’s grace. She believes one should further your studies when you can, as it is worthwhile investment that broadens your horizons and it pays off in the long run.
She further encouraged people not to be discouraged by all the negative talk surrounding education. "Keep working hard until something gives and even when it does, keep at it. Hard work pays off and consistency is key."
