‘Cooking with Fortune’ dishes up a recipe for change
For Fortune Kangueehi, Cooking with Fortune is more than a culinary initiative – it is a personal mission.
“I always knew God had a bigger purpose for me beyond my corporate career,” she says. Combining her love of food with her passion for people, Kangueehi created a platform that uses nutrition as a tool for education, dignity, and empowerment.
Her foray into nutrition-focused training began unexpectedly.
An ex-colleague invited her to include children from her orphanage in Fortune’s teen cooking classes.
It was a revelation: caregivers and cooks were preparing meals daily, but often lacked the knowledge and resources to make them truly nutritious. “By focusing on them, I could help change the way entire groups of children were being nourished,” she explains.
Kangueehi’s training sessions are hands-on and practical.
Participants learn simplified nutrition theory, prepare nutrient-dense meals and explore gardening techniques to grow their own fruits and vegetables.
“This turns even small patches of land into sustainable gardens that feed children long after the training ends,” Kangueehi says. The impact is immediate. Children receive meals that support growth, immunity and learning capacity, laying a strong foundation for their future.
Success stories abound.
In Gobabis, a caregiver shared: “We have learned a lot about how to maximise the produce we have access to and feel very encouraged to continue with the work we do.” For Kangueehi, these moments validate the effort, showing that the initiative leaves behind knowledge and confidence, not just recipes.

Challenges remain, including limited budgets and inconsistent access to fresh produce. Kangueehi tackles these with creativity and practical solutions, demonstrating that nutritious meals are achievable with locally available ingredients. Collaboration is key. She partners with NGOs, schools, nutritionists and private funders to scale impact.
Looking ahead, Kangueehi envisions expanding Cooking with Fortune across Namibia and beyond, building a movement where nutrition education, community gardens and indigenous food knowledge transform children’s lives.
