Alexandra van WykA frequent stereotype about Namibian youth is that we are “lazy and entitled” for expecting success without doing our job, or for being too dependent on state support and families rather than being proactive. This stereotype is unfair and harmful.

“I think that often when the youth give opinions or explanations for certain situations, especially surrounding their elders at home or school, it is seen as being disrespectful. That is one of the biggest stereotypes I would want to change.



Monique van WykThere’s a perception that youth are unwilling to work hard, expecting quick success or government handouts without putting in effort. Many young Namibians do complete secondary or even tertiary education, but the skills they acquire may not match the demands of the labour market, especially in technical or entrepreneurial sectors.



Kiah VleesA common stereotype about Namibian youth that I would like to see changed is the belief that we are lazy and lack ambition. This stereotype overlooks the many hardworking, passionate and talented young Namibians who actively invest time and money in their education and crafts.
