Sunshine Private College was officially opened in 2010 as a pre-primary and primary school located in Windhoek.
In January 2018, the school launched a high school, starting with only 53 students.
A few years later, the school branched out and officially opened an institution for higher learning. Today, the Sunshine group of schools has over 2 500 learners and students at different institutions.
The intuition is led by three individuals: Nomakando Kangira, the director of the group of schools, Alfred Zhou, the vice principal; and Dr Cossam Makunganya, the dean of studies at the tertiary institution of the Sunshine Group.
The school is one of the top-performing schools in the region, placing 7th in the Namibia Secondary School Examinations (NSSCO) results in 2021 and 6th in 2022.
In 2022, the school placed 31st among private schools.
The secondary college level has officially introduced the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level as part of the school’s curriculum. Ten learners are currently enrolled for AS level.
Zhou is confident that the students will do well in their end-of-year exams and put the college on the map.
School culture
The school also offers extramural activities for the learners, ranging from soccer, netball, rugby, swimming, and basketball. In addition, the school holds annual inter-house athletics in which students compete in field sports and track racing.
In addition to modelling in the annual Mr and Miss Sunshine pageant, students can showcase their public speaking skills through a debate club. Additionally, donating is also on their yearly calendar, as they often donate to the less fortunate. The previous donation was made in November 2022 to an old age home.
Sabrina Vries, the school’s head girl, joined the school in 2021. She said that since joining, she has been highly motivated to do her schoolwork, and this experience adds to the best learning experiences she has ever had.
Head boy, Lionel Nangolo, joined the school in 2019, a year after it was opened. He described the school as fostering respect among learners towards their teachers, which he believes makes it an amazing school filled with motivated and eager learners.
