Stepping towards the future

The Institution of Open Learning (IOL) is actively considering and exploring the possibility of transitioning to digital qualifications. This move is set to be part of its commitment to educational innovation and sustainability. IOL is a fully fledged online learning institution that is dedicated to advancing global educational trends and meeting the growing demands for flexible, verifiable digital credentials. They are subsequently looking to expand into digital qualifications. Currently, IOL is engaging with key stakeholders such as the National Qualifications Authority (NQA), to ensure the change to digital qualifications complies with all regulatory requirements. This initiative, in particular, is part of IOL’s reaccreditation process. Due to said reaccreditation process, IOL is being given feedback and guidance to align with local and international standards.IOL's acting chief executive Anna Imalwa said that at IOL they are committed to delivering an exceptional learning experience to students. "The transition to digital qualification marks an exciting milestone in our ongoing efforts to innovate and meet the evolving needs of our students."This change will not only reduce our environmental footprint but also offer students a more flexible, accessible and future-proof way to showcase their qualifications in today’s digital-first world.”The coming change to digital qualifications holds various benefits for students, including convenience, security and accessibility, meaning that graduates will be able to quickly and easily access and share their credentials, without the need for a physical copy. Furthermore, this reduces the possibility of fraud by being tamper-proof and easily verifiable.Going forward, IOL expects this digital shift to improve efficiency in administrative processes, better the time taken to issue qualifications, and enhance the overall graduate experience.As this initiative progresses, IOL welcomes feedback from stakeholders and the education community, stating that open dialogue and collaboration remain a central part in meeting student needs while also upholding its standards of excellence. IOL will provide regular updates regarding this initiative as part of its ongoing efforts to deliver high-quality education and student support.
