Star Teacher

Johanna Haiduwa

1. When did your journey start as a teacher?

I started teaching in 2008 in the northern part of Namibia.

2. Which subjects and grades do you teach?

I teach mathematics and life science to grade 8 and 9 learners, and I must say that this has been quite an experience.

3. Was teaching always something you wanted to do?

I come from a family of educators, so this has always been my dream since I was young. So I can definitely say I am living the dream as we speak.

4. What is the most challenging thing about being a teacher?

The most challenging thing is when you are teaching and learners do not understand or when learners miss lessons.

5. What do you love about your profession?

Teaching is a very nice profession because we are always learning new things and I enjoy staying with my learners at school.

6. What would you be if you hadn’t become a teacher?

I wouldn’t have become anything else apart from a teacher. As I mentioned earlier, I am currently living the dream.

7. What keeps you motivated and inspired to keep on teaching?

My outstanding performance and my love for children motivate me to keep on teaching each and every day.

8. What do you enjoy in your free time?

Travelling and visiting different places. As a teacher, you get to experience new environments during workshops, and you also learn a lot from the time you spend together.

9. What is the greatest thing you have ever achieved?

My learners and their outstanding results are my greatest achievement, especially because I contribute immensely to their future endeavours.

10. Do you have any advice for prospective teachers?

I would like to motivate other teachers to work very hard and help the Namibian child, as this career requires a lot of passion.
