OSS learners attend holiday classes

From 18 June to 2 July 2025, Grade 11 and Advanced Subsidiary (AS) learners at Okahandja Secondary School attended special holiday classes aimed at tackling academic challenges and boosting performance.

The extra lessons were introduced in response to low performance levels observed across various subjects, prompting the need for additional instructional time to help learners catch up with the curriculum.

According to teachers, the holiday programme was not only intended to improve academic results but also to help bridge the gap between terms and prevent the loss of knowledge and skills during long school breaks. Learners also used the time to revise and reinforce concepts learned in the previous term.

In a move that won praise from students, the Ministry of Education provided free meals to those attending the holiday classes. The initiative ensured that learners received the nutrition needed to stay focused. During the mid-morning break, usually between 10:30 and 11:00, learners could choose between bread and soft porridge.

After classes ended at approximately 13:30, many learners flocked to the school’s dining hall for a more substantial meal. Some students admitted that the promise of free, nutritious food played a role in motivating them to attend the holiday programme.
