On Friday, 24 May 2024, JG van der Wath Secondary School united for a heartwarming sanitary donation drive under the theme “Making our school a safer and comfortable place.”
Learners and teachers gathered during break at the school plot, donating pads, toilet paper, roll-on, toothpaste, toothbrushes and soap. The event, organised with the help of our Life Skills teacher, aimed to support students who do not always have access to basic hygiene items.
“Our goal was to show that kindness starts here at school,” the Ms Hamonika said. “When we support each other, we make this a better place for everyone.”
Learners were excited to be part of the initiative. “It feels good to know we are helping someone stay in school and feel confident,” said Grade 9 learner, Panduleni English.
The drive was a huge success, with the collected items set to be distributed to those in need, ensuring that no student has to miss school due to a lack of sanitary products.
The school hopes to make this drive an annual event, promoting compassion, awareness and a safe learning environment for all.
