Ella du Plessis qualifies for regionals
Ready to conquer
Ella du Plessis achieved third place at the KSSR Zone B athletics competition in March.
On 8 March, the Ella Du Plessis athletics team took part in the KSSR Zone B athletics competition at the Independence Stadium.
About nine schools participated and Ella du Plessis came in third place and qualified for regionals.
Elia Beyond, a silver medalist in the 100-metre race, described sports as a healing mechanism.
"Being an athlete has great advantages that can benefit the athlete’s school and country. People who take part in athletics have a whole different perspective of things," she said.
Beyond said athletes excel academically and in other things they do. "Doing sports builds character and instills the spirit of discipline."
Ready to conquer
Natanael Cazembe, a natural athlete, received two gold medals for the 100 m and 200 m races. He described the feeling of running and winning as amazing and also said that as he ran, he kept thinking about achieving the first spot.
Victoria Kamati, one of the athletes who plays for the University of Namibia women's rugby team and who will join the national women's rugby team once she turns 18, spoke about her experience in the competition.
"Meeting other athletes and creating bonds with them really added to the experience."
Kamati said qualifying for the regionals is good because not everyone is good at academics and it is such a great opportunity. Lastly, she encouraged learners to take part in sports because, as she said: "you never know what the future can have in store for you."
On 29 April, the Ella du Plessis athletics team will be off to regionals, ready to conquer.
