Celebrate mothers and daughters

Daughter's Day should be integrated into Mother's Day.The more I think about it, the more I agree.Mother-Daughter Day could provide an ideal opportunity to honour and celebrate all women and their relationships. It is a chance to recognise the significance of women in society, including mothers, daughters, those without children, young girls without mothers, and those who have been separated from their parents or children for various reasons.Just imagine a day dedicated to celebrating the dreams and worth of all these remarkable individuals who deserve greater appreciation.Special bonds There is no doubt that my experience as a single mother pursuing a fast-paced career often felt formidable.I was young. Finances, time constraints, and the daily struggle to be a good parent to a daughter I adored all conspired to overwhelm me at times. Sound familiar?Mother-daughter relationships warrant special celebrations where love is enough and abundant and laughter resonates.Within society’s growing awareness of women’s worth, perhaps mother and daughter days could offer an ideal moment to celebrate all women and girls in diverse situations.Celebrate all womenWhy not celebrate the mothers who did their best – even when that best wasn’t always enough to support their family in tough times?At times, mothers fail their children in various ways. Nevertheless, ultimately most mothers try their best.How could we celebrate that love and the gift of motherhood more? Would the inclusion of Daughter's Day alongside Mother's Day provide a solution?Furthermore, what about those daughters who have lost their mothers, or mothers who do not have daughters nearby? A Mother-Daughter Day would give recognition to the joy of being someone's daughter, even if caring relationships and bonds become strained or if obstacles arise along the way.Love shared on Mother-Daughter Day celebrates lifetime bonds and allows gratitude to blossom.This day would be a time when all women are reminded of their immense personal worth, just for being somebody’s mother and, or daughter. It’s a bouquet that we would give with sincerity and communicate with thankfulness.At Suiderlig Secondary School, we found it necessary to celebrate all mothers and daughters to remind them of their worth.We would like to thank all our special guests and speakers who motivated and inspired us to be better.
