Capricorn quarter-finals concluded
Windhoek Gymnasium tops super league netball charts
The Capricorn Group Schools Netball League hosted its quarter-finals last weekend at Affies Park in Windhoek. The league - which kicked off in May - saw 46 teams from 15 schools participating, with players ranging in age from under-12 to under-19.
Windhoek Gymnasium made sure to display their talent on the court and collect points as they are currently topping the logs from the under-13 age group, all the way through to the under-19s. The under-19 team managed to bag a 44-17 win against Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool (WAP).
The Affies Park netball court was left scuffed by skilled players from various schools such as the talented A Shipena Secondary School learners, who proved to be worthy opponents for Windhoek High School (WHS) and WAP.
Ella Du Plessis Secondary School’s under-19 girls drew in a game against WAP with 16 points each, while A Shipena won 25-18 in a match against WHS.
“It was a good game, but I am still a little bit sad that we did not win. Even though we drew, it still feels like a loss. But the players from WAP proved to be good competitors with good defence throughout the whole game. As a team, we will train harder and improve our communication skills on the court,” Ella Du Plessis team captain, Ashanty Jaepa, said in an interview with The Zone.
“As the Capricorn Group, we remain committed to creating sustainable opportunities in the regions and communities within which we operate, hence our support to the young future female leaders. Sport remains a key tool in the development of the youth in our communities, contributing to not only their physical well-being but also their psychological and social well-being. Capricorn Group, for this reason, confirmed its continued support to the schools netball league,” Marlize Horn, the group executive of corporate affairs at Capricorn, said.
The league is endorsed by the Namibian School Sport Union, and the finals are set to take place this weekend.
